Landscaping is the art and science of arranging outdoor space for human use and enjoyment. In addition, it refers to any activity that modifies the visible features of an area of land including, living elements (flora and fauna), natural elements (landforms, terrain shape, elevation etc.), human made elements (structures, buildings etc), and abstract elements (weather, lighting condition etc).
Landscaping requires study and observation. It is not the same in different parts of the world and varies according to different regions. Therefore, a landscaper should understand the elements of nature and construction, and blending them accordingly.
Garden design is the foundation of any great landscape. In addition, it is the art and process of designing and creating plans for layout and planting of gardens and landscapes. Garden design may be done by the garden owner themselves or by professionals of varying levels of experience and expertise.
Benefits of Landscaping
Every garden benefits from careful planning, good design and those allimportant beautiful details (McHoy and Evelegh, 2003). In hot conditions, the garden plants can absorb heat from the sun to help home cooler. Adding trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses to a garden can attract wild life such as birds, insects and squirrels. A well landscaped garden can also improve the aesthetic quality of a house, making it feel like a much more pleasant place to be. The vegetation of a garden protects water supplies, provides food (in the form of vegetable gardens), and reduces air pollution by absorbing and interrupting pollutants and releasing oxygen. They can also reduce noise pollution by blocking out surrounding noises.
Landscaping a property allows to make better use of the land. The plants grow and structures install help define the space for various uses. For example, a patio creates a functional area designed for entertaining or dining outdoors. A raised bed provides an area for growing vegetables or planting flowers to improve the look of the home.
