Fundamentals in Landscaping



Home landscaping is one of the most decorative features of a home.

The landscape can help add an immense amount of value to a residential home. Also provides a stunning and visually pleasing area which consist of flowers, plants, trees, pavers, retaining walls and lighting. Landscape is a gracious part of planning the ideal home.

Landscape Design​

Using an organized approach to landscape design will have the job done efficiently. A basic landscape design could be planned into 5 different categories which include :

  • Types of Plants, Flowers, Trees and Shrubs which are most suitable for the surrounding areas of your home.

  • Placement of these plants.

  • Activity areas throughout this landscape design.

  • Families wants and needs. For example: Pool areas, games areas, patios and walkways.

  • A site analysis should also be conducted as part of the planning of landscape design to discover the underlying grounds of your landscaped site.

Landscape design is a matter of incorporating the softscapes of the location. It includes: plants, shrubs, flowers and trees along with the landscape elements of the site, such as paved patios, driveways and courtyards.

When planning a landscape design some basic elements or principles of design should be considered.

There are few basic design elements which needed to be considered when planning to reinvent or to establish a new landscape site.


Some common elements among t which must be taken into consideration for both softscapes (Plants, Shrubs, Flowers) and hardscapes (paved patios and driveways) can be mentioned as below.

  • Color

  • Form

  • Line

  • Texture

Color

When talking about color and color schemes for landscape design, it is referring to colors that blend or compliment each other. There are three basic color schemes. Monochromatic: consist of different shades and tints of one color. Analoguos: includes colors that are side by side on a color schemes which include colors on either side of a color chart, such as: red and green. Complementary: color schemes which include colors on either side of a color chart, such as: red and green.

Form

When talking about Form in terms Landscape Design, it is referring to the size of the site. The relative size of objects within that site. This includes the size and shape of plants, trees, garden plots. More over paved patios, driveways, walkways and courtyards. The growth and form of all pants and trees that are to be planted must be considered. Keeping in mind when planning the landscape design how big such plants will grow and whether they will still fit into the same design idea.


Line

The line element of Landscape Design involves the way in which the eye moves over site and even the flow of visual aspect. The use of line in the landscape design comes into place when deciding on using straight lines or curved lines in the floor plan structure. Straight lines create a very dramatic, modern feel, while curved lines evoke a sense of calmness with smooth flowing lines that do not have harsh edges.

Texture

The texture simply refers to the various textural components of the landscape. This includes the softscapes, which are the plants, trees flowers, ferns and shrubs, while other elements such as your paved patios and entertaining area, concrete driveways and walkways, are the hardscapes of your landscape design. The combination of these two textures in a design is very important for modern landscape setting.
